Message from Admin

Dear Aldergrove Families,
As we conclude this week’s activities, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to our community members observing Passover (Pesach) and those celebrating Easter this weekend. Whether you are gathering for a Seder or an Easter dinner, I hope these holidays bring your families much joy, peace, and togetherness. It is truly a privilege to lead a school community that draws so much strength from its diverse traditions.

The Week That Was

It has been an incredibly active four-day week at Aldergrove, with students demonstrating great commitment to our extracurricular programs:

  • Athletic Engagement: Our gymnasium was a hub of activity with Badminton training, the Junior and Intermediate Volleyball Clubs, and our Junior Boys Basketball Club all holding successful sessions.
  • Student Leadership: Our Play Leaders continued to do an exceptional job organizing inclusive activities in the gym during morning recesses, while the Eco Club met on Tuesday to advance our school’s environmental initiatives.
  • Musical Dedication: The Intermediate Band has been working diligently, contributing to the vibrant arts culture within our school.
  • Learning Commons: Our Learning Commons continues to be a hub of learning, exploration and creativity. See below for updates from Ms. Szonda.

Important Milestones

  • Holiday Observance: Please note that the school is closed tomorrow, Friday, April 3rd, for Good Friday as well as Monday for Easter Monday.

Looking Ahead (April 6 – April 10)

Please take note of the following schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Monday, April 6Easter Monday – No School.
  • Tuesday, April 7 (Day 2): School resumes. Eco Club will meet in Room 201.
  • Wednesday, April 8 (Day 3): A busy mid-week schedule featuring Hackergals, Junior Volleyball, and Badminton.
  • Thursday, April 9 (Day 4): We will be holding a special morning assembly for the Manie Musicale final reveal.

Theme of the Week: Renewal

With the arrival of spring, we are focusing on the theme of Renewal. This is an opportune time for students to refresh their academic goals and bring a renewed sense of purpose to their daily work.

"No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow." — Proverb

In our school community, this serves as a reminder that every challenge is followed by an opportunity for growth and a fresh start. Let us embrace this season of new beginnings together.

Wishing you all a restful and meaningful long weekend.

Learning Commons Update

March 30-April 3

This week, Ms. Hopper’s class came in to work with Forces! They took turns building a structure out of Lego and seeing how it would fare in an Earthquake test. They tried to build without using any glue or tape with toothpicks and playing cards.  They made structures that were tested by wind, tension, and torsion to see if they made strong designs. We worked in Coding too where they had to use a Microbit to notice seismic activity (table shaking), and Dash bots to either create a ramming force into a wall or 2 Dash Bots to inflict a tension or pulling force on a sled to see if it would stay together.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes heard the book “Pink is for Everyone” or “Boys Dance” and we discussed themes surrounding gender and misconceptions surrounding what is for “boys” and “girls”.  We looked at how we have learned to identify certain professions as either “male” or “female” (e.g., firefighters are men only) and how to change our perceptions about this. Students in Grade 1 drew a picture of a non-traditional role for a community worker and gave them a name.

Remember to check out the SUPER close Milliken Mills Library Branch for weekly Storytime, Mini Maker workshops, and sign up for special events!
