Dear Aldergrove Families,
This week was an active and vibrant one at Aldergrove, filled with celebration, learning, and community connection.
Carnaval d’Hiver Celebration
On Tuesday, the school was buzzing with energy as we celebrated Carnaval d’Hiver, a winter festival rooted in French‑Canadian traditions. Carnaval d’Hiver is a joyful celebration that highlights the importance of community, culture, and winter fun. Students experienced traditional French‑Canadian activities, foods, and customs— including our special poutine lunch — all in a lively environment that honoured the richness of the French language and culture. It was wonderful to see students participating with such enthusiasm and curiosity.
Honouring Lunar New Year, Asian Heritage, and Black Heritage
Throughout the week, we continued to recognize Lunar New Year, Asian Heritage Month, and Black Heritage Month through daily announcements, cultural sharing, and spotlights on excellence from across these communities. These moments of learning help our students build appreciation for the diversity that strengthens our school community.
School Council Meeting
Thank you to everyone who attended our School Council meeting on Thursday, whether in person or virtually. We truly value our partnership with families, and we appreciate the time, ideas, and perspectives shared. Working collaboratively ensures that our school continues to grow in ways that support all students. You can view the School Council minutes here.
Intermediate Athletics
Our Intermediate basketball teams continue to prepare for their Area Tournaments later this month. We are seeing tremendous perseverance, growth, and teamwork. They continue to make us proud with their dedication both on and off the court.
Looking Ahead: Family Day
A reminder that Monday is Family Day and the school will be closed.
Family Day is a wonderful opportunity to pause, rest, and spend time with the people who matter most. Whether you enjoy a meal together, get outdoors, share stories, or simply find a quiet moment with those you love, we hope the day brings connection and joy.
We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, February 17th.
Theme of the Week: Community
This week’s theme is Community—recognizing the strength we build when we learn together, celebrate together, and support one another. From Carnaval to cultural celebrations to family partnerships, this week reflected the many ways our Aldergrove community continues to grow and thrive.
Warm regards,
Mr. Louca Mr. Pamayah

Parking Lot Safety Update
To ensure the safety of all our students, we are implementing an important change to our parking lot procedures.
Our parking lot will now be for staff only during morning drop‑off and afternoon pick‑up. Recently, we have experienced a significant increase in vehicle traffic in the lot, including vehicles blocking others in and drivers exiting their cars to drop-off students. This creates unsafe conditions for our students. Student safety is always our highest priority. For this reason, no cars will be permitted to park in the school parking lot during drop‑off or pick‑up times. Anyone parked in the lot will be asked to find street parking instead.
Families are kindly encouraged to:
Walk to school whenever possible, or use street parking in an alternate location and walk their child to and from school.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support in helping us keep all Aldergrove students safe.

Learning Commons Update
February 9-13
This week the library was host to many exciting events! On Monday, it was a stage for Mr. Lindo’s class as they presented their Fables skits for the Kindergarten classes. They did an amazing job and the audience approved of their skill for prop design and story telling.
On Tuesday, it was host to Carnaval!! IT was the hub for face painting, bracelet making, and other art activities. Students really enjoyed this whole day immersed in French Canadian culture.
On Wednesday, Farmer Mary came and presented all day on various topics about milk tied into the science curriculum. Students learned states of matter changes when they made butter by shaking a jar of whipped cream!
Thursday and Friday welcomed students from Grades 1 and 2 as they learned about their body signals and what they mean. Please see our mental health update for more information on this.
Book exchange was very inconsistent this week due to the multiple events happening. So if your child did not get a new library book this week, that was why. In the event of Library closures, I continue to direct you to your Milliken Mills Public Library. Did you know you can also borrow toys, building kits, and household items from the Library? Drop by and check out what they have! Libraries will be closed on Monday for the Family Day Holiday. Check out what is happening this weekend and next week below:
As of Wednesday, there is ONE spot left for Math Club Grade 5. It would meet for 6 classes on Thursdays. To register click HERE
On Saturdays, there is Storytime, a great opportunity to bring your children aged 3-6 for a read aloud from 11:00-11:30
Mini Makers Drop in sessions for school aged children where they can build, play and explore STEAM concepts. Supplies are limited so arrive early! Click HERE for more information. It happens each SATURDAY from 11:00-12:30pm.
Mental Health Awareness @ Aldergrove:
February
This month there is a focus on Self Care. Students in Grade 1-5 will be receiving lessons based on a Tip Sheet created by School Mental Health Ontario. You can access this resource by clicking HERE. In support of these 10 lessons, our S.P.I.R.I.T. leaders will be visiting classrooms to demonstrate and explain the uses for our mental health backpacks. In these backpacks are resources, activities and strategies for managing mental health.
Students in Grade 1-2 will also be receiving lessons on a self-regulation strategy called Interoception, or the ability to notice body signals and align them with an emotion or feeling. Students will learn how to recognize signals in their bodies and what they could mean. For example, if I have a stomach ache, trying to find out if it means I am hungry, nervous, anxious, stressed or ill. These lessons are supported by our PTOT Anne Martin.
