Message from Admin

Dear Aldergrove Families,

Welcome back, and Happy New Year! It was wonderful to see our students return from the break energized, refreshed, and ready to learn. As always, Aldergrove has hit the ground running with a week full of engagement, enthusiasm, and community spirit.

Our students jumped back into learning routines with focus and determination. Junior volleyball and Intermediate basketball have started up again, and it’s been inspiring to watch students embrace not only the excitement of competition, but also the important lessons that will come with it—teamwork, perseverance, communication, and learning to win and lose with grace. Sports remind us that growth often happens in moments of challenge, and we’re proud of how our athletes always rise to the occasion and represent Aldergrove with the utmost pride.

Our school band continues to rehearse diligently, filling the halls with music and showcasing the commitment and creativity of our young musicians. In the Learning Commons, students are diving into rich STEM learning opportunities, exploring innovation, problem-solving, and hands on discovery. It’s a wonderful way to spark curiosity as we begin a new year.

As we step into the promise of a brand new calendar year, we are reminded of the importance of setting goals—both big and small. Goal setting helps students reflect on who they are becoming and what they hope to achieve. With a strong partnership between home and school, we can support our students in taking meaningful steps toward these goals and celebrating their successes along the way.

Looking ahead, January will be an exciting month at Aldergrove. We are welcoming several guest speakers, including visits from the SPCA Humane Society, who will guide students in learning about empathy, responsibility, and animal care. We will also have field trips and workshops with the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, offering students opportunities to explore art, culture, and creative expression through their VOICES program.

Quote for the Week:

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement; nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” — Helen Keller

Thank you for your continued partnership in making Aldergrove a joyful, supportive, and inspiring place for every child. We look forward to a year filled with growth, connection, and possibility.

Warm regards,

Mr. Louca                         Mr. Pamayah

Important Safety Note

While we want our school to be a welcoming place for all of our families, we must always put student safety first. Please be reminded, that all visitors to our school must only be entering the building through the main entrance at any time of day. Visitors must use the intercom button to identify themselves before entering the building and all visitors should report directly to the office. We also cannot have any visitors waiting in the lobby for extended periods of time. If dropping off lunch, it should be dropped off on the provided carts in front of the office and visitors should then vacate the school building immediately. Family members should not be waiting in the lobby to hand-off food or speak with students and at no time should they be walking through the halls of the school. This is essential for us to maintain student safety. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Learning Commons Updates!

Welcome back!! I hope that you had a restful and memorable break that included some family reading time! This has been a busy week back in the Learning Commons. Ms. Chiu’s class engaged in a session by the YMCA about Gambling Awareness. They learned about the difference between chance based and skill based activities and how many kid oriented games give a false sense of control over the outcome, but it is random. They also learned how this random success rate is linked to higher engagement levels and leading to likelihoods of engaging in gambling type behaviours, for example, spending more money in a claw game because they almost got the toy.

Ms. Tang’s class came in and engaged in building and growing! They worked on projects linked to Structures and Plants engaging in activities like:

  • Building a garden bed and lattice, then planting seeds
  • Building a plant stand
  • Making pollinators out of pipe cleaners and engaging in a pollination activity
  • Making a sprout house with sponges and chia seeds
