Message from Admin

Dear Aldergrove Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of May and about to turn the calendar to June. Much like the final stretch of a long-distance run, we can see the finish line ahead—close enough to feel the excitement, but still requiring focus, perseverance, and determination to finish strong. June offers us a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate all the learning, growth, and accomplishments our students have experienced throughout this school year.

Recognizing and Celebrating June

June is a significant and celebratory month in many ways. It is a time to honour and learn from the diverse communities that enrich our school and society:

Pride Month – celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ community and reaffirming our commitment to inclusion, acceptance, and belonging.

Filipino Heritage Month – acknowledging the rich history, culture, and contributions of Filipino Canadians.

Italian Heritage Month – celebrating Italian culture and its lasting impact on our communities.

National Indigenous History Month – recognizing and learning from the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Additionally, June 1 marks Ontario Day, a time to celebrate the diversity, heritage, and shared values that make our province such a vibrant place to live and learn. It reminds us of the importance of community, history, and the role each of us plays in shaping Ontario’s future.

School Highlights This Week

EQAO Assessments Completed

We are proud of our Grade 3 students for successfully completing their EQAO assessments this week. Their focus, effort, and perseverance were evident, and we commend them for doing their very best.

Learning Buddies Celebration

Some of our Grade 8 and Grade 1 Learning Buddies came together to celebrate the conclusion of their collaboration. These partnerships have fostered mentorship, leadership, and meaningful connections across grades.

Grade 1 Field Trip

Our Grade 1 students had an exciting visit to the Space Centre in Vaughan. This engaging, hands-on experience brought their learning to life and sparked curiosity about science and space exploration.

Community Generosity

We are incredibly grateful for a generous donation from a local church in our community, who gifted our school a ping pong table. This thoughtful contribution reflects the spirit of care, kindness, and togetherness that makes our community so special. We sincerely thank them for their generosity—our students are already enjoying this wonderful addition to our school.

Eid-ul-Adha

On Wednesday, some members of our school community celebrated Eid-ul-Adha, a special occasion marked by reflection, generosity, and connection with family and community. We extend our warmest wishes to all who celebrated—Eid Mubarak! May this time bring continued peace, joy, and blessings.

Pride Month Kick-Off

We proudly celebrated the beginning of Pride Month with a joyful gathering in front of our school. The celebration featured a beautiful performance by our choir and concluded with the raising of the Pride flag.

This important event reflects our shared commitment to creating a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where every student feels seen, valued, and respected. Celebrating Pride is about honouring diversity, embracing differences, and ensuring that everyone in our school community feels a true sense of belonging.

As we step into June, let us continue to support one another, celebrate accomplishments, and finish the school year with pride and positivity.

Mental Health

May 25-29

Grade 4-8 students are being asked to engage in a community project named “Warm a Heart”.  For this initiative, students are asked to draw a picture or write a positive message inside of a heart. These hearts will then be distributed to retirement homes, long-term care facilities, and hospitals in the hopes of bringing some joy to the patients and residents. We thank them in advance for their positive impact on their community.

Notice of Early Dismissal

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being. On Thursday, June 25, 2026, an early release day will take place to allow elementary staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan, as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school on the morning of Thursday, June 25, 2026, only.  Students will be dismissed early that day at 12:00 pm. Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time. Families whose children attend after-school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.
