Aldergrove News, October 23, 2026

Dear Families,

One of the questions that continues to guide our work at Aldergrove is how our individual actions contribute to creating a positive, caring, and inclusive school community. This week provided many examples of students embracing opportunities to learn, grow, and participate in ways that strengthen both their own development and our collective school culture.

PA Day Monday

Please note that Monday, October 26th is a PA day. This means there is no school for students. We will see them back at school on Tuesday.

Ontario Science Centre STEM Workshops

This week, our students in Grades 1-8 had the exciting opportunity to participate in interactive STEM presentations led by staff from the Ontario Science Centre. Students were treated to phenomenal demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences that brought scientific concepts to life in engaging and memorable ways.

The excitement and curiosity were evident throughout each presentation. Students asked thoughtful questions, eagerly participated in demonstrations, and demonstrated a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Experiences like these help foster critical thinking, problem solving, and innovation while showing students that learning can be both challenging and fun.

REALyouth Program

Some of our Grade 8 students also began participating in the REALyouth program through the John Howard Society of York Region. The program focuses on helping young people develop social-emotional skills, build resilience, strengthen healthy relationships, and develop leadership capacity through the pillars of Resilience, Empowerment, Action, and Leadership. The program is delivered in schools through workshops and small-group learning experiences designed to help students navigate challenges and make positive choices.

The goals of the REALyouth program align closely with our ongoing focus on belonging and positive school culture. By helping students develop confidence, empathy, leadership skills, and healthy relationships, programs such as these empower students to make meaningful contributions to our school community.

Intermediate Volleyball

Our Intermediate Boys' and Girls' Volleyball teams continue to train hard as they prepare for their upcoming Area tournaments. This week, both teams participated in exhibition games that allowed athletes to continue refining their skills while gaining valuable game experience.

Athletics provide students with opportunities to learn far more than the rules of a game. Through sports, students develop perseverance, teamwork, communication, leadership, and resilience. As we continue reflecting on our guiding question, our athletes remind us that success is built through commitment, effort, and supporting those around us. Every practice, every encouraging word, and every act of sportsmanship contributes to a stronger team and a stronger school community.

Cross Country Regionals

Today, Aldergrove was proudly represented at the Cross Country Regional Meet by one of our student athletes. Earning the opportunity to compete at Regionals reflects significant dedication, hard work, and commitment over the course of the season.

We are incredibly proud of the effort our student demonstrated in reaching this level of competition. Their determination serves as a wonderful example of what can be accomplished through perseverance and goal setting. We also extend our congratulations to all of our cross-country runners for a successful season and for representing Aldergrove with pride, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

Walk to School Day

Friday was also Walk to School Day, and it was wonderful to see so many students, families, and staff participate in this community-building event. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our walk through the neighbourhood and park on the way to school.

Walking, cycling, and other active forms of transportation provide many benefits, including improved physical health, increased independence, reduced traffic congestion around schools, and opportunities to connect with friends and neighbours. We encourage families to continue considering active transportation whenever possible as a healthy and environmentally friendly way to start and end the school day.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us build a school community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and connected.

Warm regards,

Mr. Louca                        Mrs. Bhatt

Quote of the Week

"The way to achieve your own success is to be willing to help somebody else get it first."
 – Iyanla Vanzant

This week's quote reminds us that thriving communities are built when we support one another, celebrate each other's successes, and recognize that every positive action helps strengthen our collective sense of belonging.
