Aldergrove Public School Community Newsletter, June 26, 2025, Volume 20

Message from Admin

The end of the school year is bitter-sweet. Thank you for partnering and walking together with us as we navigated another year of unknowns. When we think about all the learning that has taken place, the relationships built and the community that has been formed, these reflections give us energy and excitement for our scholars' successes and their futures ahead. On that note, we send our graduating class of 2024-2025 off with best wishes and excellent opportunities.  Congratulations on your accomplishments at Aldergrove!

As we close off this school year, we reflect on our growth and community. We have been able to navigate, support, and celebrate each other as individuals, but also as a community with a shared vision of an inclusive space that invites, ignites and inspires excellence.

Please let us know any moving plans by using the form included in this newsletter. Likewise if you know of new families joining our school please encourage them to contact the school office to register.

We want to send well wishes to several members of our staff who have been a part of our staff this year but will be moving on. Ms. Cheung will join the staff at Ashton Meadow PS.; Ms. Naazneen will join the staff at Ramerwood PS. We appreciate our long term occasional staff, and will say so long for now to Mr. Halari, Ms. Vinluan, Ms. Ameree, Ms. Cao, Ms. Liu, Ms. Tang, Mr. Chen, Ms. Girdler, Mr. Motara and Ms. Lawrence. Their presence and contributions to Aldergrove have been appreciated and welcomed. We wish Ms.Henry the best as she enters teachers’ college at the University of Toronto.

As I leave Aldergrove PS to O.M. Mackillop in Richmond Hill, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the partnership with the community.  Your voice was valued; and through my years here, I’ve found excellence, compassion and inspiration.  I will miss the morning greetings, and the gatherings we’ve experienced together.  Thank you for being wonderful advocates for your children and the Aldergrove community.

Through pizza, sushi and Subway lunches fundraising, we raised funds to subsidize and support many initiatives. These included: fully subsidizing Scientists in the classroom, author visits throughout the year, subsidizing the busing and cost of field trips, investing in technology (Chromebooks, projectors), investing in tech equipment, and investing in well-being supports for classrooms.

The school office will re-open on Monday, August 25, 2025. School starts on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

In appreciation of your continued partnership in supporting all of our scholars.

From School Council

Dear Families,

As another school year at The Grove comes to a close, the Parent Council would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you for your support, time, and involvement throughout the year.

Thanks to our amazing school community, we were able to host some wonderful events, including Gingerbread Night in December and Aldergrove Eats just a few weeks ago—both of which brought families together and helped strengthen our sense of connection.

To the staff, volunteers, and families who made it all possible: thank you! Your contributions made a real difference.

Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and restful summer. We look forward to another great year ahead!

Warmly,

Aldergrove Parent Council: Shahida, Prakash, Reena and Maxine

Message From Our Trustee

June 2025

As we approach the end of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to take this opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments, hard work and commitment of students, staff and families. As I have visited schools, attended events and heard from families, I continue to be proud of the dedication to public education and student achievement and well-being I see.

I want to wish my sincere congratulations to all of the graduates and proud families. This is an exciting time and I hope you enjoy this celebration of all of your hard work, perseverance and accomplishments. Whether you are moving on to secondary school, the workplace or post-secondary pathways, we wish you all the very best in this next exciting chapter of your journey.

We had an opportunity in April to celebrate the achievements of 20 students at our annual Celebrating Student Success/Human Rights Ambassadors Awards event. It was a wonderful reminder of how much our students are capable of. While success and achievement looked different for each student, we saw a common theme of determination and care. Students demonstrated a real commitment to lifting up those around them. I see that everywhere in our system as I visit schools. It makes me so proud to see the ways our students are already shaping the future for the better.

Each month in the Boardroom, we also had the opportunity to recognize the achievements of staff and students through the Applause awards. Congratulations to all of the award recipients. These awards capture a sampling of the incredible work happening around York Region District School Board and the successes we see students achieving.

These successes we have seen this school year would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of staff across the system, and I want to thank you for all that you do each and every day. I also want to recognize the contributions that have been made by school councils, volunteers and families. Your work to enhance family engagement and strengthen public education has a noticeable difference in our schools and in the achievement and well-being of students.

This is a very busy time of year and I wish all of the students the best as you work on projects and prepare for upcoming exams. I hope you also enjoy the celebrations that occur at this time of year, and as we celebrate another successful school year.
